INFORMATION QUESTIONS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Product Selection & Specifications
  1. 1. What types of spectrometers do you offer, and how do I choose?
★ We offer "handheld/portable spectrometers" (P3, P4, T3, Y2/Y3) and "miniature modules" (H1, PJG series), etc. Choose based on "what you measure, and whether you need fiber optics / networking / secondary development." You can also refer to the official document (Torchbearer_Product-selection-guide-cn.pdf).
  2. 2. What can the spectrometer measure? What is the wavelength range?
★ The visible-light series covers approx. 340–1050 nm (up to 1070 nm on some models); it can measure irradiance, illuminance, color temperature, chromaticity coordinates, PPFD, reflectance, transmittance, flicker, etc.; wavelength upper limit approx. 1070 nm. ▸ See each model's spec sheet for specific start/end wavelengths and resolution. Not measurable: short-wave infrared / mid-infrared (>1070 nm), hyperspectral cameras; Raman is under development.
  3. 3. What are the main differences between models (P3/P4/T3/Y2)?
★ Differences mainly lie in interface/fiber-optics type, spectral range, whether there is a display screen, frame rate, and application scenario; the Y series is more economical but has some feature limitations. ▸ Before choosing, confirm "the measurement modes you need + whether you require a secondary-development interface." You can also refer to the official document (Torchbearer_Product-selection-guide-cn.pdf).
Software
  1. 4. Where do I download the software/App? What systems are supported?
★ On the official website (www.torchbearer.tech) download page you can get the Windows client and the mobile App (Huoyan/flameeye); the mobile App supports Android (BLE) and iOS. ▸ On Android, using BLE requires enabling Location / Nearby-devices permissions, otherwise the device cannot be found; if downloading or a link fails, contact customer service and they will send you the installer directly.
  2. 5. How do I export/parse data? Can I do secondary development?
★ Data can be saved as spectral/photometric parameters (CSV, etc.); protocol and field documentation and an open interface are provided, so you can parse the data and develop further on your own. ▸ Parsing notes: the spectral data unit is absolute irradiance value W/sqm/nm, the coefficient is int16 and the data is uint16; commands must end with ";" or they will concatenate incorrectly. Secondary-development service itself is not within the scope of routine cooperation; support is provided through "product + documentation + calibration interface."
Measurement Methods & Scope
  1. 6. How do I measure photometric quantities such as illuminance / irradiance? What should I watch out for?
★ In the software, select the corresponding measurement mode, first acquire a dark background (block the light), then aim at the light source / measured surface and read the value. ▸ Note the units (illuminance lux, irradiance W/m²·nm); light leakage / stray light will make readings read high; with strong light sources avoid exceeding the range/saturation (an exposure that is too short will also fail to receive data).
  2. 7. Why do I need a white-board calibration? How do I do it?
★ White-board calibration is a baseline step to remove the optical-system response difference, ensuring accurate reflection/transmittance measurements. ▸ Use a standard white board (white reflector) to take one baseline acquisition, then measure the sample; keep the white board clean and unscratched.
  3. 8. Can I measure specific applications (crops / liquids / alloys / reflectance-transmittance)?
★ Yes, but most such applications are "spectrum + customer's own modeling / secondary development" rather than ready-to-use. ▸ Examples: crops (the PJG series has cases for tobacco leaf moisture/nicotine, fruit sugar content, etc.), liquid concentration/color, alloy plate surface, reflection/transmission/comparison measurement — for achievable accuracy and modeling requirements, please first send samples for testing or consult customer service.
Connectivity
  1. 9. How do I connect the device?
★ On the phone use App + Bluetooth; on the computer use the client + USB/serial port (the corresponding driver must be installed). ▸ First connection: power on → download the App/client → grant permissions (Location/Bluetooth) → scan → connect; different series require their corresponding driver.
  2. 10. What should I do if I can't connect / the device isn't detected?
★ Usually caused by: driver not installed, permission not granted, wrong baud rate, or low battery. ▸ If a serial/port connection fails, first check the baud rate (commonly 921600) and the driver; if Bluetooth is found but won't connect, first enable Location/Nearby-devices and fully charge, then retry; if still failing, try another computer / reboot the device or request repair.
Secondary Development
  1. 11. Can I measure crops/plants (tobacco leaf moisture, nicotine, fruit sugar, biomass)?
★ Provided the customer has secondary-development capability, the relevant indicators can be measured (RVI/NDVI/PPR/NRI, tobacco leaf moisture/nicotine, fruit sugar content, etc.).
  2. 12. Can I measure liquids (color, concentration, gasoline/ethanol ratio)?
★ Color can be measured directly based on P/H series sensors. Organic substances such as ethanol/gasoline can be measured using a Raman spectrometer based on H series sensors. General questions about measuring substance concentration/components cannot be answered uniformly.
Purchasing
  1. 13. Are there distributors / physical stores? Can you issue an invoice?
★ Primarily direct-sale online, with no traditional distribution outlets; ordinary VAT invoices can be issued; special invoices / company-to-company transactions follow the standard process. ▸ For distribution / group-purchasing needs, contact customer service / Business for separate arrangements; pricing and lead time are subject to the actual Business quotation.
  2. 14. Do you support overseas purchases? How do I pay / get shipping?
★ Cross-border shipping is supported (overseas customers can place orders and have them shipped); ordinary VAT invoices can be issued; special invoices / company transactions follow the standard process. ▸ Payment methods (WeChat Pay / international settlement) and shipping costs are subject to consultation; overseas English materials and English certificates of conformity are available.
After-Sales Service
  1. 15. How do I report a fault / damage for repair?
★ Contact customer service and provide the device serial number + a description of the fault; after evaluation, the device is arranged to be returned to the factory (inspection/repair/calibration and then returned to you). ▸ Overseas users cannot get on-site repair and must return the device to the factory; ask whether consumable parts (filters/windows) can be provided separately.
Warranty
  1. 16. How long is the warranty? What should I note during use?
★ Standard one-year warranty; man-made damage (e.g., a broken window) is not covered by the free warranty, and repair is charged as actually incurred. ▸ Usage notes: protect the front optical window (glass piece) — do not break/scratch it; avoid strong light directly hitting the sensor; connect power per the specification; use the original packaging for transport.
